In my search for a location for my own offices, I chose the heart of Stavanger, the city where my family and friends live, despite my restless nature that often takes me on travels far away.
I found my place on one of the city's oldest streets, a street with charming wooden houses of older architecture and few floors. In a small, abandoned attic floor, with views on all four sides and sloping ceilings framing the room, I was drawn to the possibilities in the architecture. But also to the view of beautiful tiled roofs in different shades - alternating between light and dark depending on the season and the whims of the weather gods.
This view reminded me of Edward Hopper paintings, where his use of light in realistic cityscapes contributes to a dreamlike, melancholic mood. I sense - and value - a subtle connection between Hopper's art and the introspective atmosphere I aim to recreate in the space, evoking a sense of reflection and nostalgia.
Architecturally, I am inspired by the philosophy of Juhani Pallasmaa, which emphasizes the importance of incorporating the past into the present. A respect for tradition guides my design ethics, rejecting the frantic pursuit of novelty so prevalent in today's society in favor of a love for experiential beauty. By combining beautiful interiors with original architectural elements such as beams and wooden walls, the room invites tactile exploration, where I can truly feel and connect with the building's history.
Warm atmosphere and delicate lighting are emphasized in the interior - designs tailored to humans - a manifestation of my passion for the craft. Empathy and empathy are key components in the design process, and the color palette draws inspiration from Edvard Hopper's paintings and the city's roofs, creating a harmonious blend of inner and outer worlds.
I also draw inspiration from Gaston Bachelard's reflections on dreams, daydreams, and imagination. The room I have created is an oasis for creativity and design inspiration. It is a place where thoughts wander freely, imagination flourishes, and ideas take flight. The room symbolizes endless possibilities for artistic exploration.
Welcome to my design universe in Stavanger.
